Frequently Asked Questions
Which women's wedding band should I choose for my wedding?
A wedding ring is a piece of jewelry that must stand the test of trends and time. Choosing a timeless piece is the guarantee that you will love it for life. On the other hand, if your engagement ring does not allow you to wear your wedding band on the same finger, you can move your engagement ring to your right hand and wear your wedding band alone on your left hand. In this case, the choice of style will be guided solely by your own preferences and can be bolder, such as our Paris 1901 M for example. Find all our advice on choosing your wedding bands in our guide.
Which men's wedding band should I choose for my wedding?
Men's wedding bands are often the first piece of jewelry worn by men. The timelessness of a half-round is the guarantee of a piece that will stand the test of time. You can also choose a ring that complements your future partner's, whether classic, modern with a flat band, or more creative and bevelled. If you would like a more personalized piece, you can choose the metal finish: brushed, hammered or polished.
How do I match my wedding band to my engagement ring?
It all depends on the volume, height and style of your engagement ring. A solitaire often pairs very well with a slim straight or pavé band, while a more intricate setting may call for a curved ring or a more understated style. A diamond wedding band will add brilliance to a discreet engagement ring, while conversely a slim polished metal band will bring elegance and simplicity to a pavé engagement ring.
Can a wedding band be engraved?
Yes, you have the option to engrave your Gemmyo wedding band and personalize it to make it unique. Almost all our women's and men's wedding band styles can be engraved. You can choose the font style and engrave a word or a date that is meaningful to you. To find out whether a ring can be engraved, visit the page for the style you have chosen and check whether "add an engraving" is shown. If so, clicking on it will tell you how many characters can be engraved on your ring.
How do I choose my ring size for a wedding band?
At Gemmyo, you can request a free ring sizer to be sent to the address of your choice, or book an appointment in boutique with our advisors to have your finger measured. The Gemmyo guarantee gives you 30 days from receipt of your ring to make a return, an exchange or a complimentary resizing, provided the piece has not been worn. If the size chosen is not correct, we can therefore adjust it as long as the guarantee conditions are met. If you wish to have your wedding ring resized beyond these 30 days, and once the piece has been worn, we can also adjust it on a quote basis. Find our size guide to help you make the right choice.
Should I choose a wedding band with or without diamonds?
A wedding band without diamonds highlights the purity of the metal and the understated nature of the gesture. A diamond wedding band adds light and an extra sparkle. The right choice is above all the one that matches your personal taste and the harmony you are looking for with your engagement ring.
How do I care for my wedding band?
Whether in 18-carat gold or platinum, your wedding bands are precious pieces of jewelry that require special care. Plain gold creations with a polished finish require almost no maintenance. Brushed wedding bands, however, should be re-brushed from time to time to maintain their original lustre. Diamond wedding bands should be cleaned regularly with soapy water and a small soft-bristled brush to preserve their setting. Find all our care advice in our guide. To keep your jewelry looking its best, Gemmyo offers complimentary professional cleaning for life. Book an appointment at one of our boutiques to arrange yours.
What is 18-carat gold?
18-carat gold or 750/1000 gold, is an alloy, meaning a mixture of metals added to pure gold to make it more durable. Pure gold, at 24 carats, is too soft to be worked with, so the gold content must be reduced to 18 carats to obtain its most resistant form against deformation and micro-scratches. 18-carat gold is also known as 750 gold. This means it is composed of 75% pure gold and 25% alloy metals. Through the use of alloy metals, gold can be tinted to create rose or white gold. Rose gold, for example, will have a higher proportion of copper. Find all our explanations about gold in our precious metals guide.
What is the difference between white gold and platinum?
18-carat white gold or 750/1000 gold is achieved by applying a layer of rhodium, which whitens the gold and gives it its full brilliance. This metal offers great resistance to impact and micro-scratches. To preserve its brilliance and maintain its whiteness over time, the rhodium plating can be renewed regularly (approximately every 2 years). Platinum, on the other hand, is a naturally white metal that benefits from long-lasting colour stability. However, it is a more delicate metal than 18-carat gold and therefore requires particular care when it comes to micro-scratches and deformation. For more information on our precious metals, you can consult our guides on platinum (950/1000) and 18-carat gold (750/1000).
